Peace Takes Wing – painting #3 in the Peace Collection
This painting began in ceremony shared across three canvases.
Before any marks were made, each surface was smudged and gently massaged in prayer with holy water from Lourdes and Glastonbury — places long held as thresholds of healing, devotion, and grace.
From that ceremonial beginning, the first layers were painted together.
The backgrounds, mark-making, and glazing unfolded in parallel — one green, one blue, and one orange yet to come — each canvas moving through the same gestures and materials, receiving the same attention.
Yet as the layers accumulated, each surface began to speak in its own way.
In this blue painting, the ground revealed itself as vibrant and animated, alive with radiating lines and bursts of movement.
Here, the mark-making remains as field rather than merging into the figure, holding space for what would later rise from it.
These early markings would find their echo in the light radiating from the dove.
From contemplating this living blue, the image appeared.
The figure is rendered in metallic, translucent tones — wispy and permeable, more presence than body.
She is not confined to a single name nor fixed as human or divine, but appears as a form through which Spirit becomes visible — a presence in the act of release.
In Christian language, this presence is the Holy Spirit, revealed as the dove. In other traditions, it may be felt as Aum — the original vibration, the feminine creative force through which all form arises.
Here, the messenger does not dominate the message. The figure thins into transparency, while the dove gathers density, light, and momentum.
Embellished with glass beads, the dove refracts light so that it appears to shift as one moves past the painting, gently catching the viewer’s attention and inviting an awakening peace within.
The woman’s translucence speaks to humility. The dove’s radiance speaks to purpose.
This is not peace held or guarded. It is peace released — made visible — and once released, it takes wing.
