Connecting the Dots – Contemplative Labyrinth Activism with the Ocean Health Labyrinth

From Me to We – Connecting the Dots

Have you ever gotten involved in something only later to find out that it was part of something much bigger in the world?

You may have been attracted by the surface level of something – a hobby, sport, conversation, etc.  Then, with time, your growing passion had you diving much deeper into a grander global design – a movement from “me” to “we”.

The labyrinth is turning out to be such an experience for me.

Decades ago, I walked labyrinths for the quiet contemplation – this form of moving meditation helped me connect to inner peace, joy, intuition, focused intention and prayer.

If I could be there alone, all the better!

I continued this practice alone in the studio, painting dotted labyrinths as another form of meditation and prayer, connecting me to this ancient aesthetic design that appealed to my soul.

I was connecting the dots on the surface of the canvas, ignorant of the fact that others were connecting dots physically and energetically through a global movement called Contemplative Labyrinth Activism, which I’ll explain further down.

The Legacy Labyrinth Project

This past Sunday was the dedication ceremony for the Ocean Health Labyrinth at the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in the city of St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador, where I live.

It is now #9 in a global network of labyrinths in the Legacy Labyrinth Project.

The LLP’s  vision:

We believe that the labyrinth experience creates connection, compassion and coherence for individuals, communities and the planet.”

The LLP mission:

We build, connect and use labyrinths to effect change throughout the world.  We conduct research and collaborate with labyrinth walkers in practice of contemplative labyrinth activism.

Each of the 9 labyrinths in this growing network on 3 continents so far is dedicated to a different focal theme.

In addition to our theme of Ocean Health here in St. John’s, the other 8 are:

  1. La Falda, Argentina
Reconciliation for families and neighbors of the people forced to flee their homes in Europe during the Holocaust
  2. Ohio Wesleyan University – Delaware, OH – USA
    Inter-faith Peace
  3. Hoffman Institute (formerly Institute of Noetic Sciences) – Petaluma, CA – USA
    Universal Interconnectedness
  4. The Crossing – Grasslands National Park: Val Marie, SK – Canada
    Divine Feminine & Healing
  5. Hotellerie St. Yves – Chartres – France
    Wisdom
  6. Rollins College – Winter Park, FL-USA
    Becoming Responsible Global Citizens
  7. ASA Adirondack – Bakers Mills, NY-USA
    Interconnectedness of All Beings
  8. Center for Spiritual Living of Colorado Springs – Colorado Springs, CO – USA
    Great Love

Is your community the next?

During Sunday’s ceremony, all those who participated were given a small vial containing sand, grass, minerals, etc. from one of the other 8 locations. We added these to the sea water for our Ocean Health Labyrinth and the whole was later sprinkled around the cathedral – joining this location to this growing global network.

Since the 9 labyrinths have been dedicated and linked both physically and energetically, people walking one labyrinth can easily add their intentions and energy to any of the other communities and themes.

Contemplative Labyrinth Activism

I’m so glad I arrived at the cathedral half an hour early for my Artist Talk on Saturday to workshop participants from both the United States and Canada.

The presentation before mine was my first introduction to the concept of Contemplative Labyrinth Activism.

As described on the Labyrinth Activist Network site:

Labyrinth activism is walking in heart coherence, with a shared focused intention for change or healing. It is most effective when done in groups. It is often experienced as a sacred experience cultivating a sense of connectedness and insight.

This collective of labyrinth walkers are peacefully contributing to global change in a variety of ways, including monthly zoom meetings, gathering in response to international emergencies, and training activists to achieve their goals in more peaceful ways.

Connecting the Dots

Meeting several from the workshop group felt like meeting soul family – this wasn’t the first lifetime we’d crossed paths.

I’m not sure what my involvement will be in the future, but I’m grateful to have had my “me” labyrinth experience expanded and connected to a much greater “we” movement.

I’m also honoured to have contributed in the ways I was moved to before even having a clue of the bigger picture of what this would turn out to be.

  • the co-creation with Spirit of the painting “Into the Sea of Infinity” (an 8-foot print on display in permanence in the cathedral)
  • an exhibition and Artist Talk during the dedication weekend
  • sharing here with you in case you’re inspired to pursue some of the links included

Other tidbits that delighted me this weekend were:

  • hearing that when the Legacy Labyrinth Project organizers connected the dots of their locations on a map, it formed an infinity symbol, which I’d been intuitively guided to include in my painting
  • The earliest known Christian labyrinth was laid in the floor of the basilica at Al-Asnam in Algeria in 324 AD, way before Chartres in the 1200s
  • I had no idea I was walking #5 in the Legacy Labyrinth Network when I was in Chartres- it was in the backyard of my hotel during my Mary Magdalene Pilgrimage. You can see it at the very end of my video called Co-Creating Sacred Space here on Youtube.
  • although I’d felt the power of both creating and walking a labyrinth as a group while in the Transformative Arts Program in Italy (see my video here), I now understand the importance of it on a much deeper level. My me to we dots are being connected! Yay!

Thank you to all who contributed to creating this sacred labyrinth space in St. John’s, to this weekend of ceremonies and workshops, and to all who are walking in peace and for peace in this world.

Peace Garden II -the painting

Traditional gardeners are creative nurturing people with a mix of vision, knowledge, and passion for the outdoors. They ground themselves in the earth and connect to Nature as they plan, observe, listen, weed, allow and cherish the results of their co-creative efforts.

Creating your inner peace garden is much the same. The tools, layout, colours, and textures will be as unique as you are, but the results identical – peace. It all starts with intention and a passion for your inner world.

What do you need to create your own Peace Garden?

What nurtures your soul? What grounds & connects you? What do you thrive in watching grow? What needs to be weeded out to allow for healthier expression of who you really are?

Painting the Path to My Peace Garden

I smile when people say “You’re so patient!”. They can’t imagine the time and concentration it takes for the amount of detail in some of my pieces.

I can’t imagine my life without it. There’s a reason I call part of my process dot-therapy.

There’s nothing quite like being in the zone for 12-16 hours nurturing my soul in the co-creation of a painting.

Layer by layer it evolves at the same time as I do – with whatever cathartic process, energy work, exploratory play, or meditative technique inspires me in the moment.

Intuitive painting might not be your thing. It’s not for everyone.

The trick is finding what helps you grow your inner peace – on your own or with others.

The seeds of peace have always been present at your core. It’s that Divine Essence at the heart of you.

May the labyrinth of your life bring you back to your core to re-discover your birthright.

Peace Garden II

Painting is my sanctuary and the themes of many of my paintings reflect that. This one is no different.

Folks often ask how long it takes to create my paintings.

This one took 30 hours + a lifetime of practice, training & living.

Enjoy all the details – like the chakra-coloured dots around each glass-bead covered triskele fountain.

The triskele is an ancient symbol of earth-sea-sky, body-mind-spirit, of the holy trilogy. It’s about motion, momentum, action.

Notice the perfection of their imperfection – how some of the triskele symbols are off-centre – reminding us to accept our “flaws” and ever-changing process as we align with peace.

I knew I had to lengthen the passage to the labyrinth at the heart of this mandala. It’s an invitation for you to accompany me on the journey – that sacred discovery journey that brings you to your centre so you can come back out again with greater peace.

Does it speak to you?

Every Moment A Teacher – A Story of Love and Fear

Balancing intuitive painting

“Balancing” (12″ x 36″) Acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvas. SOLD

From great horror often rises stories of great courage, selflessness, and love.  On the day I heard about the shootings in Las Vegas, I was moved to watch the movie “Patriot Day” -about the terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon. It amazes me how love manages to rise above fear for some people in extreme times.

I have no idea how I’d react in such a situation – and God willing, I won’t have to live through one to find out.

But I do know that – on a much smaller scale – every day offers us opportunities to learn how to act out of love instead of react out of fear.

Becoming aware of how fear feels in our bodies increases our awareness of the power of our minds and the power of our hearts.

Here’s the story of love & fear I shared at last month’s MoMondays – monthly motivational events happening across Canada featuring real people, real stories, real inspiration.

Accompanying me on stage was this new painting, “Balancing” (12″ x 36″), which honours the many ways love, peace, and balance can be achieved on a daily basis. It also celebrates the yin (feminine- receiving – being) and yang (masculine – doing) working in harmony to achieve that balance in the journey of life.

Every Moment A Teacher

Back in 2003, my husband of 10 years and I mutually and lovingly decided to let each other go.

Our journey together had been rich and intense. His life & death health challenges in the later years had brought our love to a new high – teaching us the true meaning of unconditional love. We learned not to sweat the small stuff as major issues triggered fears on so many levels.

This time also offered me great gifts. I had to call on every inner and outer resource available to keep me strong – plunging me into the world of personal and spiritual self-help teachers, whose tapes (remember those?) I played over and over again as I walked to my several jobs, trying to keep us afloat.

Once the crisis was over, both my husband and I continued our journeys of self-discovery, supporting each other as best we could. We eventually realized (and accepted) that to remain true to our Selves, our journey as a couple would need to end. Wanting our own and each other’s happiness meant letting the marriage go.

No regrets.

Vipassana Meditation

Before moving to Calgary and diving into my Masters of Education for Teachers of English as a Second Language program, I decided to spend the summer in a series of solo retreats. I needed “me time”.

One of these was a 10-day silent Vipassana Meditation retreat in Sutton, Quebec.

This kind of meditation is great to develop the Observer Self / self-awareness. As we sat in meditation, we were taught to scan our bodies from head to toe to feel the subtle vibrations.

By Day 9, when it was time to break the silence, I didn’t want it to end. I’d reached such a state of inner peace.

But it hadn’t always been that way. Day 2 and 3 were hell!

On Day 2, I was convinced everyone was purposefully trying to annoy ME. I got to witness how my mind took soooooo many things personally – from how loudly one participant stomped down the stairs in the middle of the night to go to the washroom to how the one in front of me in the lunch line took the last of a platter I’d been eyeing.

It was both laughable and sad, but it helped me shed a layer of suffering that comes with thinking the world revolves around us. Those participants had all their own stuff to deal with – it had nothing to do with me! Wow! What a great lesson! Don’t take things personally!

Day 3 was worse. I realized how my mind created fear and ran with it. During the session of the day when we were encouraged not to move a muscle, I heard a vehicle outside. We hadn’t been allowed to drive all the way up to the centre, so I convinced myself (while sitting there looking very zen) that some drunk local yahoos had come to the conclusion we were a cult and were coming to shoot us all down. My heart was racing and I broke into a sweat. I remained completely still on the outside, but I was experiencing terror on the inside. Memories of a photograph of piled bodies from a war museum in Cyprus that I’d seen as a very young child came back into consciousness. I had it all planned. As soon as I’d hear the door open, I’d throw myself under the bloody body of the person beside me and play dead.

While fear took on a life of its own, my Observer Self lovingly reassured me that the noise was probably a grocery delivery truck. Didn’t I want more of that delicious vegetarian cooking? I had a choice: keep putting myself through wringer in body, mind, and spirit by running with fear, or choosing love – for myself and in my perceptions of the world. Witnessing the power of the mind and its effect on my body was powerful. And why? Because I’d heard a car.  Yikes!

I came out of that session discouraged from seeing how clearly I created my own fears. But I also came out of it feeling liberated and determined to choose love more frequently – questioning the truth behind fear.

The rest of the retreat was bliss!

My Action Research Study

By the time I got to Calgary, I was on solid ground again, glad I’d taken the time to come back into my Self – more loving, more mature, and ready for the next chapter. I’d shed so much of what no longer served me and was ready to dive into my studies.

When I’d registered for my Masters, I had no idea that the Education Department had a Spirituality & Leadership branch. Can you imagine? Reading books by Don Miguel Ruiz, the Dalai Lama, Sai Baba, Byron Katie and so many more spiritual leaders as homework?! School at that point had always ever been to get the degree I needed for the jobs I wanted.

So every elective course became a further opportunity for personal awareness and spiritual growth.

My Action Research course was no exception. Are you familiar with the term?

According to Wikipedia,

“Action research is either research initiated to solve an immediate problem or a reflective process of progressive problem solving led by individuals working with others in teams or as part of a “community of practice” to improve the way they address issues and solve problems.”

My study was an extension of my Vipassana Meditation practice. While teaching English as a Second Language to a group of young adults, I’d pay very close attention to the subtle sensations within my body that indicated fear. After class, I’d journal about it to train myself out of fear and back into love.

I was amazed at how often I was afraid in the space of a class. I got quicker at recognizing the signals and acting instead of reacting.

I’d always been great at the doing of teaching, but not so much at being a teacher.

You see, with my background in recreation, I loved organizing memorable successful learning events. My classes were planned to take the students from the recognition of a problem and working through the challenge before experiencing an aha moment that increased their understanding and skill ability. But the classes depended on successful time management.

I was afraid that something would happen to take the class off course. I didn’t want to get to the end of our time before we got to the end of the lesson. I dreaded the possibility of students leaving feeling frustrated with the challenge instead of elated by their success and progress.

I’d also be afraid of being found out as a fraud if I couldn’t answer questions confidently. I felt a slight twinge in my stomach if students raised their hands (especially in grammar class since I’d skipped that elective for another spirituality course).

Grammar questions triggered issues of “not being good enough”. After all, we didn’t have Google in the classroom back then, and aren’t teachers supposed to have all the answers?

By the end of the study, I became very good at recognizing the physical signals of fear, quickly identifying the root, and either self-correcting a reaction or choosing a more loving response from the get-go.

What a valuable training for all of life!

From Fear to Love

The journey to unconditional love – for myself and others – continues.

Learning to love isn’t linear. It’s like a labyrinth. The intention is there as you journey through the many twists and turns of life to the very centre of your core. There, you find a space to pause, reflect, connect, and collect what it is you need to bring it back out into the world with you.

It may be a cliché, but it’s become one because it’s so true.

“Success is a journey, not a destination”.

Balancing love & fear in our lives is a dance – one that gets better and better the more aware we are of it.

What every day situations trigger your fears?

Can you see how your mind runs with untruth to wreck havoc on your happiness?

How does fear feel in your body?

What practices can help you become more self-aware?

Your mind is powerful.

So is your heart.

With greater self-awareness, it’s possible to shift

From darkness to light,

Fear to love,

Separation to unity consciousness.

May the loving voice of your Higher Self ease you through your fears to teach you to be more loving towards yourself and others.

Namaste.

The Journey- All the Way Home to My Self

SOLD

OK… this post is a lot about me since this was such an important process piece.  But as we’re all part of the Divine Oneness, see if you can relate with the experience, messages and energy offered here.

This is huge! And I’m not just talking size. I’m talking process!

I created “The Journey: All the Way Home to My Self” as part of my personal wellness program.

I needed focused “me” time in the studio this spring to be, re-centre, and re-energize. So I put the Law of Attraction into action –  follow your bliss and you’ll attract more of it!

What would that look like for you?

There are over 20 layers of paint and energy-work here, not to mention over 120 hours of meditative focusing, many of those spent dot-making. Bliss!

I’d had the 48″x48″ canvas as part of my studio stock for about 2 years, knowing it would eventually become a tree of life with a central circle. About a year ago, the 24″ x 48″ asked to be added to the design. But it needed more gestation time.

It wasn’t until I started working on my labyrinth series in April that I realized those 5 designs were all meant to be integrated into one.

“The Journey: All the Way Home to Myself”
48″ x 78″ (4′ x 6.5′)
Acrylics & chakra stones (red jasper (root), carnelian (sacral), yellow jade (solar plexus), green aventurine (heart), lapis lazuli (throat), amethyst (third eye) & clear quartz (crown) ) on gallery-wrapped canvas.
SOLD

Let me walk you through the creative process – allow the colours and meaning to balance your chakras as you read so that you too can journey all the way home to your Self.

Chakra Balancing Layers

Layer by layer, I worked the colour and words of each chakra onto the canvas. The result was a clearing and balancing of my own chakras.

Although you can’t see them anymore, those chakra enhancing energies still emanate from the painting, assisting the viewer’s personal process.

  1.  Root or Base Chakra at the base of the spine (RED) : vitality, courage, self-confidence, self-awareness, security, strength of will, grounding.
  2. Sacral Chakra in the lower abdomen (ORANGE): happiness, confidence, resourcefulness, sociability, joy, creativity, independence.
  3. Solar Plexus Chakra below the ribs (YELLOW): wisdom, clarity, self-esteem, optimism, good humour, practicality
  4. Heart Chakra (GREEN): balance, unconditional love, self-love, self-control, compassion, generosity, harmony
  5. Throat Chakra (BLUE): knowledge, health, decisiveness, loyalty, calm, trustworthiness
  6. Brow or Third Eye Chakra in the centre of the forehead (INDIGO): intuition, mysticism, understanding, integrity, faithfulness, clear-sightedness
  7. Crown Chakra, at the top of the head: beauty, creativity, inspiration, reverence, service, idealism, good of the Higher Self.

The Vesica Pisces

vesica pisces design The basis for my composition and personal energy work was the Vesica Pisces – sacred geometry used in religion and spirituality for thousands of years to represent a source of immense power and energy.

The Vesica Pisces is the two becoming one – just as my experience painting and your experience now witnessing become an opening for something greater.

It’s also

* an opening into the mysteries of higher consciousness
* the seed of the tree of life and basic motif for the flower of life,
* the intersection of spiritual and physical,
* creation/ birthing/ yoni/ Goddess
* two becoming one
* a symbol for Jesus Christ (the fish shape in the middle).

The Awkward Teenager Phase

This phase isn’t uncommon in an intuitive painting…. or in life!

My focus was more on process than looks. My job was to be patient and to keep loving it (and myself) as we grew.

Which of your creations may be at an awkward teenager phase right now? How can you add more love and compassion to the mix?

There are about 6 layers of washes, glazes, paint, and art therapy here. I was even down on my hands and knees scrubbing with a brush at one point to remove layers of as-yet-fully-cured washes of gold and stainless steel paint to bring back some of what I liked a few steps back.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The studio truly is a practice – for life, for self-love, for all there is.
I trust in the process.

The initial layers are an investment of time, energy, and lots of expensive pro-paint… but none of it is wasted.

Every layer informs the metaphysical and aesthetic value of the finished piece.

Non-Attachment for Peace & Harmony

In order to reconnect to peace and achieve harmony, there’s no going back – just forward.

Are you too attached to the past to open to the mystery of the future and the peace in the now?

I may have loved how some of the close-up sections looked when I did those chakra coloured puddle-stripes, but it didn’t hold together as a painting.

So I kept adding layers of darker paints in the upper chakra colours to form a more uniform and darker background upon which to build the light.

Integrating the Labyrinth Series Designs

Now came time to integrate my previous 5 labyrinth paintings:

The two labyrinths have an active role in this contemplative art piece.

The viewers will be able to journey through both using a soft dry paintbrush, enhancing their meditative journey.

The Tree of Life

Here’s where I fully immersed myself in dot-therapy for days on end.  Truly wonderful!

First, I dotted the bare tree branches and roots in 2 shades of iridescent copper and bronze. I also highlighted the intersections in tiny light gold dots.

Then, I added the seasons, which thankfully meant more dot-therapy! I tell ya! I was really in the dot-flow!

As one of my representations for the Law of Rhythm, the symbolism of the 4 seasons was very important for me this winter.

Business was slow and my energy seemed to match, calling for more solitude and creative time instead of focusing solely on generating new business.  This project was about honouring this inner and economic rhythm instead of trying to force something that wasn’t working… yet. My job was to stay in my peace no matter what.

Radiant Light

Once the tree was completed, it was time to work on the halo.  So much Light went into this painting. It was time for it to shine out into the world.

Here, we have layers of tiny and broader brush strokes, first in zinc white (transparent), titanium white (opaque), and interference violet, blue, and orange. These appear white from one angle, but shine in colour from another.

I also added 3-D sparkly seeds in the root system to symbolize the juicy inspiration from which all grows. I love sparkle & shine!

You can also see here the triskele symbol in the 4 corners. I started with a layer in teal, then went for purple and interference violet. In person, they look like jewels.

The triskele is a Celtic design with a triple spiral. It represents the harmonious union, motion and transformation achieved through

  • life-death-rebirth,
  • spirit-mind-body,
  • mother-father-child,
  • past-present-future,
  • power-intellect-love,
  • and more.

Healing & Meditation Tools

I always imagined this painting hanging with a space in between the 2 canvases.

From the central root now hangs a quartz point pendant with 7 chakra stones, bringing the piece full circle from its original layers. The pendant can be easily removed if the owner wants to wear it to help balance her/ his charkas.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

There are also 7 engraved chakra stones from India resting on the top ledge of the bottom canvas – a mini-altar. It’s a good spot for the soft paintbrush to rest when not used to journey through the two labyrinths.

There, in the root system, precious objects and healing tools can both nourish and be nourished, bathed in layers of energy work and painted symbolism.

It doesn’t take a lot of room to create a mini-altar for yourself. Is that an idea that appeals?

The Protection

After many hours of adding tiny branches and other touch-ups, it was time to decide it was done.

I applied an isolation coat of soft-gel to protect the pigments and then 4 coats of UV resistant varnish.

I love the symbolism.

Varnish is  like surrounding yourself with a white light to protect yourself from harm. That light allows your beauty to shine through and enhances your experience of the world.

Varnish protects from dust, scratches, moisture, etc. while deepening the colours and increasing the shine (because I chose gloss).

The last coat of varnish was brushed on Mother’s Day, but the chakra stones didn’t arrive in the mail until weeks later.  There you have it, this baby is ready for a new home! My work with it and its work with me is done.

Two More Labyrinth Paintings

Two weeks ago, I introduced you to “Chakra Journey” and “Peace Flow”, my first 2 labyrinth paintings in this new series. It celebrates the various moods and blessings of my regular labyrinth walks. In painting them, my journey continues. In owning one of them, so can yours.

Today’s two labyrinth paintings show you the difference between a Chartres-style labyrinth and the classical 7 -circuit one.

3. Oasis of Inspiration Labyrinth Painting

Oasis labyrinth with 2 angels

“Oasis of Inspiration” – prints available

In this labyrinth painting, I wanted to thank my angels for their support in my intuitive process.  I know they’re there with me, waiting for me to invite them into my journey. Ask and you shall receive.

Thanks to all those on FB who contributed name suggestions. Once again, I incorporated them into a prayer.

Prayer: Oasis of Inspiration

Dear God and Guiding Spirits
Angels of Light & Love
Overseers of my Highest Good
I’ve come to this oasis
Ripe with in-sight
To walk in faith
Embraced by your love.

As I journey within,
May I breathe in the Life Force
That connects me to you.

I am a dream walker
Here to voyage in the silence of my inner soul
Seeking clarity and inspiration.

I am an angel walker,
Here to explore the space between your wings
Seeking balance and peace.

As I walk this labyrinth,
May I remain attentive to the signs
And be truly transformed
In the space between each step.

Walking for Answers

Labyrinths are a great tool to access intuitive guidance.

Before you enter, ask your question and pay attention to all your senses as you slowly make your way to and from the centre.

A memory may rise to the surface or a bug walk across your path. Everything has meaning when you’re on an intuitive walkabout.

You can find out more about how to get the most out of the process in my free 5 Steps to Activate Your Intuition for a Happy Healthy Life online tutorial.

The original “Oasis of Inspiration” is 16″ x 20″ – SOLD
  • Acrylics on gallery-wrapped canvas. No framing required
  • Several thick clear isolation coats and varnish were applied to give this piece a super high-gloss look.
  • It comes with a soft paintbrush that you can use to move your way through this Chartres style labyrinth.

4. Mother Earth Labyrinth Painting

When I started creating these labyrinth paintings, my friend Jill asked if I would paint her a classical 7-circuit one instead of the Chartres-style one.

When I meditated on it, I envisioned a pregnant woman with the labyrinth as her belly. This didn’t surprise me as Jill is a doula who uses labyrinths to help expectant mothers in the birthing process.

Soon after, my vision of a pregnant woman turned into a primal goddess with the whole planet in her uterus. She’d become the Great Mother, Gaia, Mother Earth.

I’m glad to say Jill was thrilled with the results of her commission.

You too can have “Mother Earth”! Prints-on-demand are available by clicking here. Order yours on paper or canvas of many sizes.

P.S. The prints on canvas are great to use as finger labyrinths and can be wiped down with a moist cloth for hygiene purposes. This makes them great for wellness centres and hospitals as well as home.

Which speaks to you more? Why? Please comment below.

New Labyrinth Painting Series

Peace Flow labyrinth painting

“Peace Flow”

This past Saturday was International Labyrinth Day.

I only found out the day before, but it’s not the first time that my creative projects somehow align with planetary movements.

As you may have read in a previous post, walking the floor labyrinth and using the finger labyrinths in a local chapel has become part of my regular meditative practice.

I’m amazed at how different my labyrinth journeys can feel.

That’s why, in April, I decided to paint 6 labyrinth paintings that celebrate my various experiences. In painting them, the journey continues.

Here are the first 2.

1. Chakra Journey Labyrinth

I created this one Easter weekend.

It honours the grounding, connecting, and chakra balancing effects of journeying a labyrinth.

  • RED governs the base or ROOT chakra situated at the base of the spine: vitality, courage, self-confidence, security, stability.
  • ORANGE governs the SACRAL chakra situated in the lower abdomen: self-respect, success, happiness, confidence, resourcefulness.
  • YELLOW governs the SOLAR PLEXUS chakra, situated below the ribs: creativity, self-worth, wisdom, clarity.
  • GREEN governs the HEART chakra: unconditional love, self-love, balance, self-control.
  • BLUE governs the THROAT chakra: self-expression, knowledge, health, decisiveness.
  • INDIGO governs the brow or THIRD EYE chakra, in the centre of the forehead: intuition, mysticism, understanding
  • VIOLET/PURPLE governs the CROWN chakra, at the top of the head: spirituality, self-awareness, beauty, creativity, inspiration

This painting is assisted with the energy of dragonflies to dive beneath the surface and see beyond the illusions, delusions, and self-limiting beliefs.

Prints Available

The original (12″ x 12″) was sold before it was done, but you can order prints by clicking here.

Note: Prints on stretched canvas make great finger labyrinths and can easily be wiped down with a moist cloth if you work in a setting that requires it for hygiene reasons. I suggest you get larger than a 12″ x 12″ if you want to use your fingers. You can also use a soft paintbrush to journey through it.

2. Peace Flow Labyrinth

”Peace Flow’ honours the process of returning to one’s centre to reconnect with the peace that is always living there.  It helps shed whatever doesn’t serve you so that you can carry that peace back out with you.

Embraced by a peace dove, every dot in this labyrinth is a prayer, a meditation, a conscious opening to peace.
