Peace Garden II -the painting

Traditional gardeners are creative nurturing people with a mix of vision, knowledge, and passion for the outdoors. They ground themselves in the earth and connect to Nature as they plan, observe, listen, weed, allow and cherish the results of their co-creative efforts.

Creating your inner peace garden is much the same. The tools, layout, colours, and textures will be as unique as you are, but the results identical – peace. It all starts with intention and a passion for your inner world.

What do you need to create your own Peace Garden?

What nurtures your soul? What grounds & connects you? What do you thrive in watching grow? What needs to be weeded out to allow for healthier expression of who you really are?

Painting the Path to My Peace Garden

I smile when people say “You’re so patient!”. They can’t imagine the time and concentration it takes for the amount of detail in some of my pieces.

I can’t imagine my life without it. There’s a reason I call part of my process dot-therapy.

There’s nothing quite like being in the zone for 12-16 hours nurturing my soul in the co-creation of a painting.

Layer by layer it evolves at the same time as I do – with whatever cathartic process, energy work, exploratory play, or meditative technique inspires me in the moment.

Intuitive painting might not be your thing. It’s not for everyone.

The trick is finding what helps you grow your inner peace – on your own or with others.

The seeds of peace have always been present at your core. It’s that Divine Essence at the heart of you.

May the labyrinth of your life bring you back to your core to re-discover your birthright.

Peace Garden II

Painting is my sanctuary and the themes of many of my paintings reflect that. This one is no different.

Folks often ask how long it takes to create my paintings.

This one took 30 hours + a lifetime of practice, training & living.

Enjoy all the details – like the chakra-coloured dots around each glass-bead covered triskele fountain.

The triskele is an ancient symbol of earth-sea-sky, body-mind-spirit, of the holy trilogy. It’s about motion, momentum, action.

Notice the perfection of their imperfection – how some of the triskele symbols are off-centre – reminding us to accept our “flaws” and ever-changing process as we align with peace.

I knew I had to lengthen the passage to the labyrinth at the heart of this mandala. It’s an invitation for you to accompany me on the journey – that sacred discovery journey that brings you to your centre so you can come back out again with greater peace.

Does it speak to you?

Peace Be With You

Peace Be With You intuitive paintingPeace Be With You emerged from the process of painting The Journey– All the Way Home to My Self

I’d incorporated all 5 designs from my labyrinth series into that painting. But I’d had to redesign the peace dove. The one in Peace Flow didn’t suit the new style.

I was so enamoured with the new design that I decided to give it its own canvas.

I made a few changes to its body and tail shape before dotting it into being.

I find dots to be a perfect representation of energy, vibration, and a mix of spirit & physical form.

The multi-layered base of this small jewel evolved with the leftover paints from The Journey. I hate throwing paint out. So if there’s a bit left on my palette, I usually have a few canvases on the side that are happy to receive it.

So this small painting holds within it the same energy as my big one.

Truly, inspiration inspires new inspiration. It’s all part of the creative process.

This imagery also emerged from my Catholic upbringing, I’m sure. It reminds me of the images of the Holy Spirit – a peace dove radiating in a halo of light.

All I know is that when I look at it, I feel the same soothing peaceful energy I did when creating it. Can you feel it too?

New Labyrinth Painting Series

Peace Flow labyrinth painting

“Peace Flow”

This past Saturday was International Labyrinth Day.

I only found out the day before, but it’s not the first time that my creative projects somehow align with planetary movements.

As you may have read in a previous post, walking the floor labyrinth and using the finger labyrinths in a local chapel has become part of my regular meditative practice.

I’m amazed at how different my labyrinth journeys can feel.

That’s why, in April, I decided to paint 6 labyrinth paintings that celebrate my various experiences. In painting them, the journey continues.

Here are the first 2.

1. Chakra Journey Labyrinth

I created this one Easter weekend.

It honours the grounding, connecting, and chakra balancing effects of journeying a labyrinth.

  • RED governs the base or ROOT chakra situated at the base of the spine: vitality, courage, self-confidence, security, stability.
  • ORANGE governs the SACRAL chakra situated in the lower abdomen: self-respect, success, happiness, confidence, resourcefulness.
  • YELLOW governs the SOLAR PLEXUS chakra, situated below the ribs: creativity, self-worth, wisdom, clarity.
  • GREEN governs the HEART chakra: unconditional love, self-love, balance, self-control.
  • BLUE governs the THROAT chakra: self-expression, knowledge, health, decisiveness.
  • INDIGO governs the brow or THIRD EYE chakra, in the centre of the forehead: intuition, mysticism, understanding
  • VIOLET/PURPLE governs the CROWN chakra, at the top of the head: spirituality, self-awareness, beauty, creativity, inspiration

This painting is assisted with the energy of dragonflies to dive beneath the surface and see beyond the illusions, delusions, and self-limiting beliefs.

Prints Available

The original (12″ x 12″) was sold before it was done, but you can order prints by clicking here.

Note: Prints on stretched canvas make great finger labyrinths and can easily be wiped down with a moist cloth if you work in a setting that requires it for hygiene reasons. I suggest you get larger than a 12″ x 12″ if you want to use your fingers. You can also use a soft paintbrush to journey through it.

2. Peace Flow Labyrinth

”Peace Flow’ honours the process of returning to one’s centre to reconnect with the peace that is always living there.  It helps shed whatever doesn’t serve you so that you can carry that peace back out with you.

Embraced by a peace dove, every dot in this labyrinth is a prayer, a meditation, a conscious opening to peace.
