Oh Blessed Nature Spirits

This ode to Earth’s blessed nature spirits is the creative gift that sprung from my week in the Spirit, Art & Nature workshop at the Academy of Art, Creativity & Consciousness in Italy this summer.  I was there for 2 months for the Transformative Arts Certification Program.

The video is only 4.5 minutes this time!

Once you’ve watched it, ask yourself if your soul is moved to connect with Nature more. If yes, how could you create your own sacred space in your own unique way – be it in your back yard, city park, or in the wilderness.

Make it an inviting and honouring spot to commune. Invite the blessed nature spirits to join you, expressing both gratitude and asking for their messages.

Be present, asking and receiving intuitive guidance. You may hear these blessed nature spirits, see them, feel them, know them. They may communicate to you through your feelings, memories, elements, experiences.

Be still, dance or create within your space.

Always pay attention to both your inner and outer environment.

Those acorn sprouts had a lot to teach me. So did the fact that the threatening thunderstorms held off for the week until after our closing circle. Then came the hail!

May this video, prayer and channeled answer I received also be a blessing in your day. The messages we receive for ourselves are often of benefit to others. In this I trust.

P.S. This video sure was a lot of fun to create! I layered my voice multiple times for the songs. I found Aums and gongs on my music-subscription site. I discovered special effects in my video-creation app on my phone. And I stayed up very late one night because every time I turned off the light, new lines kept popping up in my mind to match all the footage I’d recorded that week.

Ah the creative flow. How nourishing. How fulfilling. And as for the specific guidance I received in the woods that week, it helped me make decisions about my future, and opened my heart to possibilities. Two months later, I’m still open to where it will all lead. I’m glad I created this video to remind me of what I still need to hear.

P.P.S. If you’d like to be a patron of my art, I gladly receive contributions via Paypal or etransfer (for Canadians) at [email protected]. Thank you.

Oh Blessed Nature Spirits!

Children of Mother Earth & the angelic realms
Beloved Elementals, beings of pure spiritual energy,
Crystal & Flower Devas, beings of light who unlock the power of inner healing
And faeries who tend to our animal & plant friends
Thank you to you of many names who dwell in the forests, mountains & water sources –
Dancing behind the veil that once fluttered invisibly before my eyes.
I am honoured by your presence in this sacred space.
I have asked and stilled my mind.
May your wisdom and magic infuse me yet again.
I am listening.

Welcome Home Dear One.
Just as the acorn holds within it the blueprint to become a great oak,
You too are ready to burst out of your shell to reach higher & higher
And to embody the Life and Light divinely designed within you.

Listen. For “Out of the darkness, out of the silence
Thunders the Cosmic Sound, Aum!”

You were born, nurtured, and held safely on Mother Earth’s ample lap
And though storms may dampen your spirits,
They awaken deeper strengths, calling you forth.
Do not hide from your True Self.
Drink deeply of life beloved child of Mother / Father God.
Trust that your challenges happen for you, not to you.
Step through delusion & fear
To quench your thirst in the Light.
Break through the walls of your ego shell.
Trust the flow of Truth
To embrace the Mystery.

“Gone is the our bondage with the dawn of new freedom;
Gone is delusion in the light.”

You are home within your Self no matter where you are.
You are safe. You are loved.
You are divinely guided one inspired step at a time.
Open your heart to the Divine spark within
Let it lead you beyond your perceived limitations.

Look for the signs we place there for you,
Follow your bliss as your service to humanity.

You are a prayer in action
In constant transformation

Join us often in Nature to reconnect
As you did when you were a child
We are still here to support you on your journey
Soar in the Glow of Divine Love.

Mary Magdalene Pilgrimage Video – 18 days in 27 minutes

My Journey with Mary Magdalene

From May 3-20th, I traveled through France with a small group of Canadians & Americans on this Mary Magdalene Pilgrimage led by Ariana Rose Brackenbury.

Mary Magdalene started coming through in my visions and paintings in 2014, when studying visionary art in Vienna and Bali.

At that point, I wasn’t aware of all the controversy surrounding Mary Magdalene or the fact that in 1969, the Catholic church took back what Pope Gregory the Great said in 591, which had led to over a thousand years of teaching she’d been a sex worker. Nor did I know that Pope Francis, in 2016, affirmed that she was instead the “Apostle to the Apostles“, elevating July 22nd to a feast day for this saint.

As for the movie “The DaVinci Code“, I’d seen it, but can’t say I’d spent much time contemplating it beyond Hollywood entertainment.

What really awakened Mary Magdalene’s essence in my life was when I was Guided to Glastonbury in 2019 and to the books “Anna, Grandmother of Jesus: A Message of Wisdom and Love” and “Anna: Voices of the Magdalenes” books in the Chalice Garden bookstore.  The energy was palpable just holding the first, something I’d only experienced a few times in my life.

The stories of the holy family’s travels and initiations that these books contained, left me with an open mind, an open heart, and the willingness to say ‘Yes!’ to the Guidance to join this pilgrimage.

Then came more books, book club discussions, and a couple more Mary Magdalene energy-infused paintings:

I’m fascinated by the found Gospels, the reframing of beliefs, the opening to so much more than we didn’t even know we didn’t know. I’ve appreciated the in-depth research as well as the channeled wisdom of several authors.

Mostly, I’m curious and welcoming of how I can help bring forth any love, message, essence of Mary Magdalene and the Divine Feminine. I know it’s a journey, not a destination.

Spending over 60 hours revisiting each site through thousands of photos and video clips for the creation of this movie was just one more step in integrating all that I experienced during 18 days in May.

Of course it was also my way of sharing it with you. So thank you to all those who made this trip possible.

I invite you now to feel your way through this video and all the information below on the 27 locations and come to your own questions, conclusions, curiosities, and inspirations. Enjoy the process.

P.S. I welcome your art patronage. Thank you.

The 27 Mary Magdalene Pilgrimage Sites

The information below comes from both our pilgrimage package by Ariana Rose Brackenbury, and several Internet sites, including Wikipedia.

I’m sharing it to give you a better appreciation of the 27 locations you’ll experience in the 27-minute video above.

This is also giving me a chance to learn more about the places I’ve been since, at the time, I was often feeling or experiencing with or without my camera more than listening or reading.

What’s important to know before we get into each location is that Mary Magdalene is said to have spent the last years of her life in France after the crucifixion of Christ. She and the apostles who accompanied her during this escape from persecution became the first evangelizers there.

1. Grotte de Sainte Marie Madeleine (Mary Magdalene Grotto):

Between Aix-en-Provence and Marseille, the Sainte-Baume mountain is home to some sacred caves. At the end of our 45-minute uphill hike, we arrived at a small Dominican monastery and the Mary Magdalene Grotto in time for the 11am mass. Catholic Popes, Kings of France and pilgrims have all walked this steep trail the hillside chapel.

Some say that Mary Magdalene lived a hermetic existence in this cave for 30 years after evangelizing the region of Provence. From there, she was carried by angels to the cliff summit 7 times a day to pray. Many of the sculptures and paintings we saw throughout France portrayed these angelic visits and her  ecstasy. When the angels saw her last hour approaching, they transported her to the Via Aurelia, near the shrine to St. Maximin.

Ariana ads: “This mountain, sacred to Isis, has been considered holy ground for thousands of years. The energy of the divine feminine is strong here. There are many versions of Mary’s life in Egypt, England, Provence France, Languedoc France and elsewhere – several of which said she was part of the Isis lineage as was Mother Mary. Some say there were sacred ceremonies done in the cave in the traditions of the priestesses of Isis. The natural water here is reported to have healing properties.”

See more in my 3-minute video on YouTube.

2. Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume:

At the foot of the Sainte-Baume mountain is the town of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, whose basilica is dedicated to Mary Magdalene. Her skull is housed in the church’s crypt. Mary’s sarcophagus was discovered on the 12th of December 1279 in the crypt of Saint-Maximin, drawing many pilgrims tothe site, where this basilica was built in 1295.

3. Cathédrale St. Sauveur – Aix-en-Provence:

According to the Christian tradition, the first church on the site was founded by Saint Maximinus of Aix, one of the seventy-two disciples, who arrived in Provence from Bethany, a village near Jerusalem, with Mary Magdalene on a boat belonging to Lazarus. Maximin built a modest chapel on the site of the present cathedral and dedicated it to the Holy Saviour (le Saint Sauveur). Mary Magdalene and St. Maximin preached here before she retreated to the Grotto in Saint Baume. Maximin stayed in Aix and became its first bishop. The 1st century chapel floor still remains inside the Cathédrale Saint-Sauveur, which was built over it.  In my video, I show you the Burning Bush Triptych by Nicolas Froment, but I don’t have a photo of the “beautiful stained glass window with Mary Magdalene and her jar”, so I’m not sure I saw it. Oops… The Cathedral that stands there today is a national monument.

4. Saintes Maries de la Mer:

This historical ocean-side village is where the three Marys (Mary Magdalene, Mary Salome and Mary Jacobe), along with with their uncle Joseph of Arimathea, Lazarus and many others are reputed to have come ashore in a boat without oars or a sail. According to the gospels, the 3 Marys came to Jesus’s sepulchre three days after the Crucifixion and were the first witnesses of his Resurrection. They fled the persecution of Christians in the Holy Land after Jesus’s crucifixion to end up in France.

The Eglise Notre-Dame-de-la-Mer was built as a refuge and fortress to protect villagers from invasions from the sea. It has a fresh water well inside, for when the villagers had to take shelter from raiders. The Sanctuary is the site of one of the first places of pilgrimage in Provence to honour Sara, the black Madonna patron saint of the gypsies. Sara is said to have possibly been the Egyptian servant of the three Marys. In another version, Sara was a local woman who welcomed the three Marys on their arrival. A statue of Sarah is in the crypt of the church

This church is known in France for the celebrations it holds for each Mary’s feast. The feast days in May draw 25,000-40,000 Roma Catholics (gypsies, which my guide told me they prefer to be called) and others from France and beyond to the town for a week. The high points at that feast include a ritual when a painted reliquary chest, said to contain the bones of the Saintes Maries, is ceremoniously lowered from its high perch to the altar for veneration. The crypt is left open so that the statue of the Roma’s own Saint Sara, can be honored. On successive days, Romas and a large crowd process statues of Sara and the Saintes Maries from the church to the beach, carrying them right into the sea.

We weren’t there on feast day, a good thing as I’m not fond of crowds… Our group did, however, have a Scorpio full moon & eclipse ceremony on the beach. Only two braved the cold waters during this unusually chilly May.

5. Béziers:

Béziers is one of the oldest cities in France. It was a Languedoc stronghold of Catharism, which the Catholic Church condemned as heretical and which Catholic forces exterminated in the Albigensian Crusade. The Cathars held views that were very different from those espoused by the Church – going more towards the simplicity of the teachings of Jesus and against the corruption in the Church. As Catharism became more popular the Church began the Albigensian Crusade, a campaign to eliminate Catharism by Pope Innocent III.

The crusaders reached Béziers on 21 July 1209. Béziers’ Catholics were given an ultimatum to hand over the heretics or leave before the crusaders besieged the city and to “avoid sharing their fate and perishing with them”.[8] However, many refused and resisted with the Cathars. The town was sacked the following day and in the bloody massacre no one was spared, not even Catholic priests and those who took refuge in the churches.

One of the commanders of the crusade was the Papal legate Arnaud-Amaury (or Arnald Amalaricus, abbot of Citeaux). When asked by a crusader how to tell Catholics from Cathars once they had taken the city, the abbot supposedly replied,”Kill them all, for the Lord knoweth them that are His”.

Amalric’s own version of the siege, described in his letter to Pope Innocent III in August 1209 (col. 139), states:

While discussions were still going on with the barons about the release of those in the city who were deemed to be Catholics, the servants and other persons of low rank and unarmed attacked the city without waiting for orders from their leaders. To our amazement, crying “to arms, to arms!”, within the space of two or three hours they crossed the ditches and the walls and Béziers was taken. Our men spared no one, irrespective of rank, sex or age, and put to the sword almost 20,000 people. After this great slaughter the whole city was despoiled and burnt …[10]

The invaders burned the Cathedral of Saint Nazaire, which collapsed on the thousands of people who had taken refuge inside.

6. Minerve:

The siege of Minerve was undertaken by the Catholic Crusaders in June and July 1210 when they besieged and captured the town. The Crusaders allowed the soldiers defending the town, Catholics, and any Cathars who had not yet reached the leadership status of perfect to go free. Three Cathar perfects who repented were pardoned, but 140 others who refused to do so were burnt at the stake. Some Cathars chose to jump freely into the flames rather than wait for their executioners.

Cistercian monk Peter of Vaux-de-Cernay records two miracles which allegedly took place during the siege. In one instance, a spring from which very little water flowed began to gush water shortly after the Crusaders arrived for the siege. Afterwards, it was reduced once again to a trickle. In the other, as the Crusaders were leaving, they set fire to all the huts which they had made out of branches and dry leaves. One hut, in which a priest had said Mass, while in close proximity to the others, was somehow spared from the flames.

The steep gorges surrounding the town made it virtually impossible to storm. The Crusaders lobbed heavy objects into the walls of the town. On the west, a rock thrower called a petraria (trebuchet) was used, in one of its earliest appearances in Europe.[16] This machine, named mala vazina (“Bad Neighbor”), bombarded the town very heavily and towards the end of June destroying the main wall of the city. The defenders held on for several more weeks. On 22 July the city surrendered. (* I’m just noticing this date now – also the feast day for Mary Magdalene).

7. Le Domaine de Mournac:

Featured twice in this video and in a separate video I created, the Domaine de Mournac was our home for 7 days and the hub from which we visited many of the sacred sites in the South of France.  It’s a 12th century stone coach house, nestled in over 15 acres of woodland and vines. Here’s where we settled into a communal lifestyle where all participated in organic meal creation, designed to replicate the energy and intention of the early Essene communities which focused on community and collaboration.

8. St. Salvayre:

We found ourselves in a very special small church in the tiny hamlet of St. Salvayre after taking a very windy drive up the mountain. The road has no number but is marked as a Cathar route on the IGN map, so it is very old. Ariana had reported that there is very powerful energy there, especially around the altar. Some legends say that Yeshua died here. In a very interesting post about the conflicting information on this church, one blogger wrote:

They (Jesus & Mary Magdalene) were going to Narbonne and then to Stes. Maries de la Mer to see their daughter Sarah.  Sarah had married the Lord of Râtis who lived on the Oppidum with its sacred wells.  Maybe she was expecting a baby.  The year would have been around 49AD. But Jesus, who had never been well since his heart was injured during the crucifixion, became ill, and died on that journey, and was buried near St. Salvayre.  And Mary continued alone. Sarah being married implies that there was a bloodline through Jesus and Mary Magdalene, but as it was through a woman it would not have been recorded and monitored.

9. Limoux:

Here, we visited the Basilica of Notre Dame de Marceille, a magnificent church of southern Gothic style from the 14th Century, dedicated to Mother Mary. Alas, no photography was allowed inside. It’s built around a Black Madonna known to heal the blind. The church has been a pilgrimage destination for centuries. The water from the spring down the hill from the Basilica is said to have healing powers, especially for eye troubles.

10. Carcassonne:

Carcassonne played a major role in the Albigensian Crusade. The city held against a siege for 14 days in August of 1209. Eventually the Catholics surrendered, and the Cathars, refusing surrender, were expelled from the city with nothing but the clothes they were wearing. The Cathars fled to the surrounding countryside, where they were eventually rooted out and slaughtered.

11. Montségur:

Montségur was the last refuge of the Cathars during the Crusade. The siege of Montségur was a nine-month siege of the Cathar-held Château de Montségur by French royal forces starting in May 1243. After the castle surrendered, about 210 perfecti and unrepentant credentes were burned in a bonfire on 16 March 1244.

Although the Albigensian Crusade had been concluded with the Treaty of Paris-Meaux in 1229, local resistance continued. The Cathar Church was still able to operate and oppose the Inquisition that pervaded the Languedoc. In 1233, the Cathar Bishop Guilhabert de Castres asked Raymond de Pereille for permission to make Montségur “the seat and head” (domicilium et caput) of the Cathar Church.

As a haven for Cathars, Montségur gained symbolic and strategic importance in the resistance fight against the Catholic Church and the French forces in subsequent years. In 1241, Raymond VII made a token attempt to capture Montségur, primarily to impress the King and the Catholic Church of his allegiance. At that time Montségur housed about 500 people.

In the context of Occitan resistance and possibly linked to Raymond’s efforts to free himself from the chains of the Paris Treaty, two representatives of the Inquisition, William Arnald and Stephen de Saint-Thibéry, as well as their companions and retinue were murdered by about fifty men from Montségur and dispossessed faidits at Avignonet on 28 May 1242. This event led to the decision to send a royal military expedition to eliminate the stronghold.

In 1244 the attack on the castle intensified and the Cathars were defeated and any who chose to maintain their beliefs were burned. No stakes were needed: they mounted the pyre and perished voluntarily in the flames. At the base is a monument to the 210 who chose to die in the fire on March 16, 1244 rather than give up their beliefs.

It has been claimed that three or four perfecti survived; they left the castle by a secret route to recover a treasure of the Cathars that had been buried in a nearby forest in the weeks prior to the surrender. The treasure not only contained material valuables but also documents and possibly relics. Nothing about its whereabouts is known.

The mountain is energized by two major ley lines that intersect. It is said Mary’s fabled “Book of Love” was held here and not found after the siege. The Château de Montségur was razed after 1244. The current fortress follows French military architecture of the 17th century.

At the base of the mountain, in the “Prat dels Cremats” (Occitan for “Field of the Burned”), a modern stele commemorates the death of the victims; it is inscribed “Als catars, als martirs del pur amor crestian. 16 de març 1244” (Occitan for “To the Cathars, to the martyrs of pure christian love. 16 March 1244”).

12. Cave of Bethlehem – Ornolac-Ussat-les Bains:

This unmarked cave up a local walking trail was a site for Cathar Initiations. Some members of our group felt the energy as they climbed the cave wall barefoot to stand in the geometric relief. I chose to experience it from the ground. I also created this other video of our group’s visit there.

It’s possible the mysterious treasure of the Cathars was hidden in this or another of the caves of the Ariège valley.

13. Bugarach:

This upside down mountain, which looks like the top has been broken off, has very strong energies. It’s seen as a portal or star gate to other dimensions, a major energy vortex that connects to a network of ley lines in the area. There are many reportings of UFO sightings around the top of the mountain. According to some sources, this is the 2nd (sacral) chakra of the planet. The “Anna, Voice of the Magdalenes” book speaks about the location of the former Essene community at the Pic de Bugarach. Another legend states that it is the burial spot of Jesus and Mary Magdalene.

14. Fontaine des Amours (Fountain of Love or Lovers Fountain):

We stopped near the small town of Rennes les Bains to visit La Fontaine des Amours. The source is energized by the Pic de Bugarach. The top pool feeds down into a deep heart shaped pool, where some say that Mary Magdalene performed baptisms.

15. Chair of Isis:

According to Annaiya Sophia, a local source, the Chair of Isis, also known as the Throne of Isis

is reputed to be an Initiatory Seat of Power for the Mystery School of Isis.  Every year hundreds of men and women flock to this spot praying to receive wisdom, healing and initiation into the Feminine “Way”.

Because you ‘sit’ on the throne, I feel that this sacred site is connected with fertility, sexuality and womb wisdom.  Historically, Rennes les Bains is officially marked on The Rose Line (Paris Meridian) a time/energy line that runs through St Sulpice in Paris, all the down to the region’s holy mountain, Mt Bugarach.

The Throne of Isis is also situated within the Pentagram as discovered by Henry Lincoln in Holy Blood, Holy Grail.  This is a mystical portal mapped out into the land surrounding Rennes les Chateau by five mountainous peaks.  Many of us in the region call this pentagram The Venus Temple, with its epicentre at La Pique (the Venus Temple transmission)

16. Nebias Natural Labyrinth:

This mysterious maze of limestone, roots, and moss called The Green Labyrinth is the source of many local legends. It would be very easy to get lost in here…. It’s a karstic maze hidden in a preserved oak forest, part of the larger trek, “Le sentier Nature,” which itself is part of the “Sentier Cathare”.

Ariana wrote: “If you are sensitive to fairies, angels and the energy of other realms you may find some magic here. Allow yourself to open to feeling the energies of the area and a deeper connection to the land.”

17. Peyrepertuse:

The wind was a-blowing on this famous mountain fortress Chateau de Peyrepertuse – one of the so-called Cathar castles – at one point, having mistaken a crag for a path, I found myself gripping the walls with a prayer in my heart. I’m sure I wasn’t the first to do that in this century or centuries past. I have to say, perched high on top of a limestone cliff the views were definitely stunning.

This fortress is an example of the chateaus of France built in the dark ages. Inside there is the Church of Marie  on the lower level with strong feminine energy, as well as the church of San Jordi  at the highest point of the fortress.

At the time of the Albigensian Crusade, it was the fief of Guillaume de Peyrepertuse who, not wanting to submit, was excommunicated in 1224. He did finally submit after the failure of the siege of Carcassonne, and the castle became a French possession in 1240.

18. Gorge de Galamus – St. Antoine Hermitage:

I had a breath-taking spiritual experience here when the sunlight coming into the cave-chapel started blessing my eyes through colour dancing through the lenses on my iPhone. I felt connected energetically in a way that stayed with me for a long time.

The Gorges de Galamus are located between the Catalan Country and the Cathar Country, in the departments of Aude and Pyrénées Orientales in the Occitanie – Pyrénées Méditerranées region. According to the region’s official website,

It was around the 14th century that hermits came to isolate themselves in the natural caves of the Gorges. They placed the site under the protection of St Antoine. The hermitage, built in a natural cavity in the cliff, overlooks the canyon of the Gorges and offers a “breathtaking” spectacle.

The buildings seem to be present from 1395. The 19th century was that of the assertion of the religious vocation of the Hermitage. Several hermits succeeded one another maintaining the place, constructing buildings, instituting the bell for vows, receiving the Easter and Pentecost processions. The hermits would have followed one another at Galamus until around 1930, giving a spiritual dimension to the site

The drive was stunning as we wound up to the top and precarious as you’ll see in the video on the way back down. It’s a very simple Hermitage nestled in a cave on the side of a cliff.  The more than life-sized wooden sculptures of Christ and 2 female figures representing humanity was created by Georges Grouiller (St. Paul de Fenouillet). It represents how, on the day of ascension, there is both new hope (character standing) and blindness to this hope (seated figure).

Ariana had written that the energy of Mary Magdalene is said to be very strong here – it may have been a ceremonial place. There is also a sense of heart energy and a lovely blend of the masculine and feminine.

19. Rennes le Château:

According to Wikipedia, this hilltop village is known internationally; it receives tens of thousands of visitors per year, drawn by conspiracy theories surrounding a putative buried treasure discovered by its 19th-century priest Bérenger Saunière, the precise nature of which is disputed among those who credit its existence.

Ariana wrote:

The famous Rennes-le-Chateau was highlighted in the movie “The Da Vinci Code”. There is powerful Earth energy here and in nearby  Bugarach. We begin the day at the simple  Church of Saint Mary Magdalene, which despite its size has much to explore. Much is hidden for those who have eyes to see. The Magdalene Line Trilogy by Kathleen McGowan is a good read as you are preparing for the pilgrimage. The original church was dedicated to Mary Magdalene in 1059. Catharism was very strong at that time and had a lot of influence. While there is no evidence that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married we know that the Catholic Church went to great lengths to remove any evidence that did not support their dogma. The current structure was renovated in the late 19th century by the controversial and well-loved Bishop Saunière who had a deep love for Mary Magdalene. Within the church are many clues to what Bishop Saunière wanted others to know about Mary Magdalene. One of his many gifts to the town was the construction of the  Magdalene Tower. There is much controversy about the surprising wealth the priest Saunière spent creating the Magdalene tower and the home near the church. What is the truth – will we ever really know? Within the church are many clues to what Bishop Saunière wanted others to know about Mary Magdalene. Can we bypass the controversy and instead tune into our own wisdom? Is the Holy Grail inside of us? Take enough time in this small church to allow for your own sense of the energies to arise.

OK, so the part where I’m singing was a recreation of what spontaneously happened when I walked into the space after leaving the Mary Magdalene Tower. The echo was wonderful and the feeling even better. I tried to convey that with a few special effects.

This feeling was augmented by David Bailey’s beautiful channeled Mary Magdalene concert on piano.

20. Rocamadour:

Rocamadour has attracted visitors for its setting in a gorge above a tributary of the River Dordogne and especially for its historical monuments and its sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which for centuries has attracted pilgrims from many countries, among them kings, bishops and nobles.

Flights of steps ascend from the lower town to the churches, a group of massive buildings half-way up the cliff. The chief of them is the pilgrimage church of Notre Dame (rebuilt in its present configuration from 1479), containing the cult image at the centre of the site, a wooden Black Madonna reputed to have been carved by Saint Amator (Amadour) himself.

The village of Rocamadour is the second most visited attraction in France after Mont-Saint-Michel. The pilgrimage site became one of the four holy places of Christendom along with Jerusalem, Rome and Santiago de Compostela. Rocamadour is said to be a place where miracles happen . . .

21. Lourdes:

This site was special for me. Not only had I been there as a little girl, but I could so feel the veneration for Mother Mary, and it touched me deeply.

Last time I was there, I was 9 years old and living on a military base in Germany. This time, we arrived on the last day of the 63rd International Military Pilgrimage (May12-14 2023) with 14,000 military personnel from 40 nations, all focused on peace. Hopeful! The nightly procession before the one in this video must have been even more spectacular! Since I’m not a fan of crowds, this one was more my scale. I hardly used my camera on the first of our 2 days there, until the evening procession. The next day in the rain, it got me out of our hotel room early when all was quiet except the bagpipes. I came home with some holy water that trickled drop by drop into my bottle and a heart filled with the vibration of this holy site where Saint Bernadette experienced 18 apparitions. Many miracles have happened there since.

The Lourdes apparitions are several Marian apparitions reported in 1858 by Bernadette Soubirous, the 14-year-old daughter of a miller.

From 11 February to 16 July 1858, she reported 18 apparitions of “a Lady”. Soubirous described the lady as wearing a white veil and a blue girdle; she had a golden rose on each foot and held a rosary of pearls. After initial skepticism from the local clergy, these claims were eventually declared to be worthy of belief by the Catholic Church after a canonical investigation. The apparition is known as Our Lady of Lourdes.

The holy spring came to life after her 9th apparition and miracles started to happen after that. When we were there, the main spring taps were barely trickling, but a second filling station was built a bit further down.

The Lady, who didn’t give her name at first despite the priests’ many requests finally acquiesced on the 4th time. With her arms down, she raised her eyes to heaven and then, folding her hands over her breast she said, “I am the Immaculate Conception.”. She asked that a chapel be built and told Bernadette 3 secrets.

Thousands joined Bernadette on her visits to the grotto until the site was barricaded by the government and people fined for kneeling at the grotto. Bernadette had to kneel across the river just as the sculpture in the video.

The grotto reopened to the public in October 1858 by order of Emperor Louis Napoleon III. Soubirous received no further apparitions after the 18th appearance (on 16 July 1858), and she did not feel any desire to visit the grotto afterwards. The people, however, kept on visiting. In 1866, Soubirous left Lourdes to join a religious order.

Several churches were eventually built at Lourdes, including the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes and the Basilica of St. Pius X.

22. PARIS – Sacré Coeur :

A few from the group headed to the Basilica of Sacré Coeur de Montmartre (Sacred Heart of Montmartre) after our late dinner for the 11pm mass. Welcome to Paris!

23. PARIS – Église de la Madeleine:

This church is more popularly known as La Madeleine. Napoleon Bonaparte had it redesigned in the Neoclassical style to become a monument to the glory of his armies. After his downfall in 1814 construction as a church resumed, but it was not completed until 1842.

There is a powerful statue at the rear of the church depicting angels lifting Mary Magdalene (see #1). There are varying opinions about whether the statute depicts her as being pregnant. Behind the statue is the mosaic Mary Magdalene kneeling before Christ with her alabaster jar.

24. PARIS – Chapel of the Miraculous Medal – St. Catherine Labouré:

This is the church that honours the French nun Catherine Labouré who was a Marian visionary. The famous Miraculous Medal of our Lady of Graces, worn by millions (including my father), is believed to have been created by her as requested by Mother Mary.

The chapel was packed with pilgrims praying for miracles- it didn’t have a tourist feel at all.

Saint Catherine Labouré’s body is incorrupt and her coffin is located at the top of the Church to the right of the main altar. A tomb with the effigy of Saint Louise de Marillac is on the other side.

25. PARIS – Saint Sulspice:

“The Église Saint-Sulpice is one of the oldest churches in Paris. It gained fame from the Da Vinci Code due to its location on the zero meridian. A brass line runs through the cathedral known as the Rose-Line, said to be symbolic of the royal bloodline of the Merovingian Kings. The old legend claimed the kings were from the bloodline of Mary Magdalene and Yeshua. Also in this church is a large sundial which runs north to south which is used to calculate the dates of Easter and other sacred days that change from year to year. The Rose-line runs through the sundial and then through the church. This line runs down to the south of France and runs through Rennes-le-Chateau. One of the titles of Isis is Queen of Crowns of the North and South. Isis is the Esoteric Queen of the Red Serpent Rose-line. The red line connects to the power of fertility, menstruation and the matriarchal lineage of Isis. In history both Isis and Mary Magdalene had the task to resurrect their dead solar king.” (from Ariana’s itinerary)

26. Vézelay:

Leaving Paris, we stopped in Véselay, Burgundy on our way to Chartres. There, we visited the Basilica of St Mary Magdalene, one of the great masterpieces of Burgundian Romanesque art and architecture. The church and hill at Vézelay were added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1979 because of their importance in medieval Christianity and outstanding architecture. The relics of Mary Magdalene were brought to Vézelay from the Church of Saint Maximin near the grotto of Sainte-Baume in the 11th century. In the crypt of the church there are two shrines, one dedicated to Mary Magdalene and one dedicated to Christ. Vézelay is the starting point of many pilgrimages in France; the energy of pilgrims that have been visiting this site for centuries is profound.

The beginning of Vézelay’s decline coincided with the well-publicized discovery in 1279 of the body of Mary Magdalene at Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume in Provence, given regal patronage by Charles II, the Angevin king of Sicily. When Charles erected a Dominican convent at La Sainte-Baume, the shrine was found intact, with an explanatory inscription stating why the relics had been hidden. The local Dominican friars compiled an account of miracles that these relics had wrought. This discovery undermined Vézelay’s position as the principal shrine of the Magdalene in Europe.

27. Chartres:

Chartres was our last stop. I’ve never spent so much time in a church before, despite my Catholic upbringing. We toured the main church, and I added a tour of both the roof and the crypt. The next day was my highlight, witnessing the preparation of the sacred space for the labyrinth walk. I got special permission to video from up in the pulpit. I teared up when the rector said yes.

I’d been painting the Chartres labyrinth since 2017, after my weekly walks in one in St John’s, NL based on this 1205 design in France. I was thrilled our group would be there on a Friday, the only day they remove the church benches so pilgrims can walk it. The creating of the sacred space was as, if not more moving to me than seeing it open for the community and walking it myself. That’s why I also created a separate video juxtaposing one sequence of the light-workers in the spectacular evening sound & light show and the lightworkers clearing the labyrinth indoors, including our co-leader June (dressed in white).

Ariana had written in her itinerary that “Chartres is said to be on ley lines which link Glastonbury, Stonehenge and the Pyramids in Egypt. The Cathedral is filled with imagery, sacred geometry, carvings, stained-glass windows and sculptures of feminine figures, offering a glimpse into the feminine aspect of God. There is much here to be aware of – and it is often hidden in plain view for those with eyes to see. … With its 160 stained glass windows, crypt and labyrinth, it is a place of rare architectural beauty with sacred geometry and is said to house the tunic of the Blessed Mother, the Sancta Camisia (from when she birthed Jesus). Also of interest is the Black Madonna – the subject of controversy as it was lightened as part of the renovation of the cathedral. the labyrinth, a perfect reflection of the size of the rose window that looks down on it.”

Well there you have it. I learned so much preparing this way-too-long blog post. I trust you did too. Don’t forget to watch the movie at the top or on YouTube.

All 11 Drums

And as a final tribute to Spirit before I go, here are all 11 drums that I feel so blessed to have co-created this year.

These drums and their ripple effects in the lives of those who experience them would not have been birthed had I not said ‘Yes!’ to my Spirit Calls. I followed up with a request to my Team of Divine Helpers that they help me raise the funds to make it happen and this idea intuitively flowed into my mind & heart. May their blessings keep on spreading!

I’m thrilled to say that this project along with many other inspired efforts helped me reach 95% of my goal. Wow! Again, thank you and have an amazing summer!

20 Paintings on Display at Johnny Ruth Boutique

And if you’re in St. John’s, Newfoundland d& Labrador this summer, stop by Johnny Ruth Boutique at 183 Water St. to see 20 of my energy-infused paintings live. They’re a whole different experience in person. Who knows? One just might call you home.

P.S. My paintings are all still for sale on my website. It may take a bit longer, but arrangements will be made to get yours to you. I’ll be checking emails once in a while and the staff at Johnny Ruth are very happy to help.

Blessings & thanks,
Dominique

Spirit Call to Italy-Transformative Arts Certification

Sharing this story of my latest Spirit Call to Italy has two purposes.

First, I believe that the more you read about how intuitive living works for me, the more you’ll open up to your intuitive channels, leading to a happier healthier life aligned with your True Self.

Second, for the artists who follow me, let me introduce you to the The Transformative Arts Certification Program at the Awakening Arts Academy near Assisi, Italy. You too may feel the Call.

A Needed Shift

I felt it. My friends noticed it.

For a few months, I’d been walking around feeling drained, off-track.

I knew something had to change. I also knew that these feelings were only the precursor to a needed shift. So I waited patiently (or impatiently at times), doing what I could to stay open, inspired, and hopeful for clarity & change.

At times, my creative thoughts and efforts revolved more around ways to earn an income than on what art has always been for me. This is decentering.

Luckily, my Team of Divine Helpers found ways to remind me of my true purpose during occasional blissful painting sessions.

In June & July, during breaks from caregiving for a friend, painting “Equilibrium” helped me regain balance.

In August, my Team encouraged me to Live Life through the vision & painting “Vive la Vida“.

In September, a visit to Ontario & Québec with my father reignited my love of travel & video-making. Our togetherness was the greatest blessing.

In October, through the co-creation of “Coming Forth-Mary Magdalene“, I reaffirmed my sacred reason for painting. This is the type of channeled work that Calls me!

It’s not the first time that finding my way between entrepreneurial realities and the Sacred Path of a lightworker has posed its challenges. I’m sure many can relate.

I recognized that the low-grade discontent in between blissful painting sessions and nature times was my soul speaking to me.

And I also knew that I needed to make space to hear and make changes before those intuitive taps on my shoulder became a 2×4 striking me down to get my attention.

After all, that’s exactly what I teach in my Intuition into Action Treasure Map: 5 Steps to a Happy Healthy Life. Everything I share comes from personal experience.

So if you remember, in early November, after weeks of focusing on detoxing my body, mind & spirit, I asked my Team of Divine Helpers to show me the way forward. I was ready for change …

And I asked that I be made aware of my direction during a solo retreat weekend at the Tree of Life, supported by massage and mind-clearing sessions with Meranda Squires.

Within a week, I had my answer.

The Signs

While waiting for Meranda to pick me up, I was dancing and chanting on my mini-trampoline, surrounded by my energy-infused art in the studio. This never fails to raise my vibration.

I was excited, knowing a shift was coming after months of what felt like stagnancy. I also recognized that those months were perfect in their preparation for what was coming. It’s all part of the journey.

Acceptance is peace.

I was grateful that my emotional guidance system was showing me the need for change.

Living an intuitive life means embracing the mystery and trusting that everything works together for our Highest Good.

As I danced, I prayed, stating my intentions and asking for help during this retreat.

That’s when I received my first vision – of a yellow white and blue yoga pose poster that used to be on my studio wall years before.

It had been a gift from a friend at the Ananda Ashram across the street from the Awakening Arts Academy in Italy where I’d gone to be an artist in residence for a week in 2014. I also got to visit nearby Assisi during that week.

I’d ended up there by Dana Lynne Andersen‘s invitation after a workshop I’d booked with a long-admired artist there was cancelled.

Just after receiving her email offering a different possibility and necessitating a decision, I walked into the temple at an ashram in Bali to find myself face to face with a sculpture of Saint Francis of Assisi. Now that was a clear and unexpected sign on an island in Asia!

So back to 2022 in my studio on my rebounder, I imagined spending a longer period of time away from the Internet at an ashram and felt lighter. “A week wouldn’t cut it. 2 months would be nice. I need to contact Dana at the Awakening Arts Academy to see if she needs an assistant or something.

Then off I went to my Tree of Life mini-retreat, where the vision of the poster came back a few times. I wrote & circled Dana’s name in my journal.

While doing Mind Clearing with Meranda, I identified and cleared a belief about art sales & doing sacred work that I’d carried forth from previous lifetimes and had been reinforced in this one. Wow! I’m sure there are more layers to let go of, but that was major.

When I got back to the city, I had a busy week, but my journal on my desk kept reminding me to contact Dana. We follow each other as colleagues on Facebook, but I hadn’t talked to her in years.

At some point around this time, , daydreaming about spending a couple of months in Italy, I pulled a Spirit Calling Card spread with the deck in my studio. Not only was the reading completely encouraging, it was miraculous. How did 2 of the same card end up in that deck? And how did I pick both in one shuffle?

“Dance your path of purpose and manifest prosperity x 2!!!”

At the end of the week, a wonderful birthday gift arrived in my inbox.

A friend and ex-student from Korea living in the States with his wife and children wanted to buy 2 larger paintings, including “Equilibrium”.

Dana Lynne Andersen

Two days later, I received an email from Dana, a rare occurence.

I hadn’t reached out to her yet, but I didn’t hesitate to open & read this email thoroughly as she’d been on my mind. It advertised her 2-month Transformative Arts Certification Program. The early-bird price was roughly the same as the sale of those 2 paintings.

I knew! The signs were clear!

I contacted Dana and told her this whole story. She was thrilled at my offer to assist and I became open at the idea of joining as a participant.

“Experience the radical aliveness of your own authentic & original creative expression and learn how to catalyze that emergence in others.

The Arts have a unique capacity to heal, uplift and transform us in body, mind and soul.

Transformative Arts cultivates freedom of expression, heart opening joy, soul intuition and spiritual wisdom.”

We’ve decided to let my role in the Transformational Arts Program evolve naturally while on location, both listening to Guidance. I trust that.

Whether it’s for my own inner journey, to take more of a role at the Academy, or to become more active in my community with regular Transformative Arts courses here, I don’t know yet.

Again, I’m embracing the mystery and saying YES! to the signs, knowing this inspired action will lead to others.

Tuition is covered. Accommodation & transportation will manifest itself through further inspired actions – mine or yours.

I’ll be staying across the street at the ashram with daily yoga, meditation, great meals and community.

I can feel myself getting back on track. It feels wonderful! This is a movement towards being of greater service – first to myself and then to others. We’re all in this together.

That’s the intuitive life!

The Transformative Arts Certification Program

As stated in the 2023 brochure:

The Transformative Arts Certification Program is comprised of TWO LEVELS; a foundation and a teacher training.

  1. The foundation level is called INNER JOURNEY. It stands alone as a lovingly guided personal voyage of healing, self-discovery and self-expression. The Inner Journey provides deep structure support for profound inner exploration and guides you to expanded states of freedom and unconditional joy. (1 month)
  2. The TEACHER TRAINING is a closely mentored training in the Transformative Arts Method. You will learn how to spark and guide creative process and how to midwife the transformative process in others. Students are trained to lead workshops and to facilitate group process in a variety of settings. (1 month)

These can be taken separately. Both are required for certification. It’s happening in the Umbrian Hills near Assisi, Italy, June 4 – July 30th. Early-bird pricing ends February 14th.

Contact Dana Lynne Anderson at info@awakeningartsacademy if you’re interested. Limited to 12 students and I’m one of them!

Thank You for your Patronage

Know that every small and large purchase you make from me this holiday season and beyond is going towards my Highest Good and for the Highest Good of all those I am and will serve.

So thank you – every purchase counts – from a calendar, intuitive services or paintings – it all makes a difference in helping fund this latest Spirit Call. Donations are also welcome via [email protected].

I’ve got tuition covered. Now for accommodations, transportation and living expenses.

Plus something else is brewing… but this post is long enough. I’ll tell you more later.

As always, may something here inspire you on your Path as I continue to follow mine. Namaste,

Dominique

The Power of Beauty – Mosaïcultures Quebec

Whether created by humans or Mother Nature, beauty can be a powerful healer.

Can you remember a time when a sense of awe at the beauty before you opened your heart wide and sent vibrations of gratitude coursing through your entire being?

Anyone who knows me well has heard me say that my life’s purpose is to explore & express my love of beauty and the beauty of love.

A 3-week holiday with my Papa in Ontario & Québec was all about both. What a treat for the heart & soul!

In this 7-minute video, I share one of the beauty-highlights of our travels: Mosaicultures Quebec 2022 – Once upon a time … the Earth.

Created in partnership between Mother Nature & humans, this was a heart-opening, awe-inspiring experience.

It’s on now in Quebec City until October 10th.

6 Million plants exquisitely designed into 5 thematic areas to honour Mother Earth: Man & Earth; The Nionwentsïo; Mother Earth & Her Children; A Land of Water & Ice; and A Return to History.

We took 3.5 hours to walk & film the well-visited park. Wow!

But as our schedule was quite full, I made the video on the quick with iMovie’s new Magic Movie feature (which unfortunately works in reverse chronological order). So you’re seeing it from the exit to the entrance. No matter.

May the power of beauty at Mosaicultures in Quebec City lift your spirits as it did mine.

And may you appreciate every moment with loved ones. I sure did! Thanks Papa!

Bite-sized Bliss – Take it!

There’s a lesson in everything you live … if you look for it.

I do. And sharing these life lessons is part of how I hope to inspire.

As you read this short story below, reflect on what guidance it can offer you in your life right now.

Bite-Sized Bliss

While on solo-retreat in Witless Bay for a week in July, I knew that a necessary ingredient to nourishing my body, mind & spirit would be spending some quality time with my 2 best buddies.

Luckily, St. John’s is only a 25-minute drive away.

My hope was that Leslie & Kerri could come for a whole day’s adventure.

Leslie was available to come early and stay half a day. Kerri came a little later and had planned to stay the rest of the day until a family phone call changed her plans.

No worries.

Sometimes life offers you bite-sized bliss and not the whole cake.

Enjoy those short moments of love & beauty that fuel the soul. Focus on what you have, not what could have, would have or should have happened.

Bon Appétit

Our plan was to drive to the other side of Witless Bay (5 minutes away) to the Beaches Path trailhead.

By the time we got there, we only had 2 hours to hike before lunch.

As we started, we reminded ourselves that this was about quality, not quantity. “Success is in the journey, not the destination”.

The trail is 7 km and is told to take 2-3 hours one way (so 4-6 for me & my camera).

We had no destination. We had 2 hours to enjoy our exploration for as far as it took us. Leslie put her watch timer on for an hour so we’d know when to turn back.

As you’ll see in the video above, it was so gorgeous! So what if we didn’t have time to do more…

We definitely want to go back to do it with a car at each end. But on this day, we only had time to take a bite out of the whole trail, and enjoy all of its tastes and textures. What beauty!

So grateful for our friendship and nature’s offerings of the day, we had a healthy lunch together on the deck of my temporary home before saying goodbye.

Short and sweet!

After they left, I learned of an outdoor pool built out of the river, just 5 minutes the other way. What a nice surprise before a quiet afternoon / evening.

So even though I didn’t get a whole day with my friends as I envisioned, it all happened perfectly and as needed.

Yay!

Your turn – what would you like to experience this week? If you can’t make the full adventure happen, what bite-sized bliss can you invite in the essence of what you were envisioning?

Live in the feeling tone of what it is you want and know that in doing so, you’re inviting a lot more bites your way.

Have a blissful week, one bite at a time!

P.S. I’m taking time off blogging for a while. Have fun exploring my site at your leisure while I’m on holiday.

How do you romance life?

How do you romance life?

I’m not necessarily talking about romancing your partner. I’m single, so that’s not part of my external reality yet.

I’m referring to increasing what the Oxford Dictionary refers to “a quality or feeling of mystery, excitement, and remoteness from everyday life”.

While I was on a rejuvenating retreat in Witless Bay in mid-July, the island of Newfoundland was experiencing an uncharacteristic heat wave. Part of why I was so thrilled that my intuition guided me here back in 2011 is that I don’t do so well in the heat.

I knew I wouldn’t be spending the whole day out in the scorching sun, but my soul was calling me to spend a few hours romancing life in nature that afternoon. So I drove to the end of the road to find the Mickeleens Path trailhead.

You won’t find many people hiking the East Coast Trail in a long flowy skirt. It’s not what you would call practical while making your way through brambles and bushes. But that’s exactly the mood I was in.

I remembered the feeling of hiking through the deep winter snow in Ottawa with 2 layers of long skirts over my ski pants. Back then, you’d hardly ever find me wearing pants. Nowadays, I rarely wear skirts.

So on this day, I delighted in the feeling of my long skirt blowing in the breeze while standing on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean.

I can still feel the freedom & romance of it just writing about it.

I only hiked for 1.5 hours in the creative bliss of picture & video taking – not the full trail. But it was just what I needed. And now I get to share the romance with you in the video above. Enjoy!

So how do you romance life?

Be it with your partner, others, or by yourself, how can you create opportunities for delight, mystery, excitement and a break in the routine of your every day life?

You deserve romance no matter what your relationship status is.

Enjoy!

Embracing the Fog – embracing the mystery

Oh how thrilling to watch the thick fog roll in to the St. John’s harbour during a 3-hour spontaneous solo photo-hike up Signal Hill the day after Summer Solstice.

As I explored the ever-changing landscape, I was reminded of some important aspects of intuitive living.

Embracing the Mystery – A story about fog

1. You Do Not Need to See the Full Picture

I love to think of my Higher Self & Team of Divine Helpers as up above the planet able to see our big picture while we’re down here often oblivious to what’s around the corner.

We may not see our destination or much of the route there, but we don’t need to. All we need to see is the stretch right in front of us as we head in the right direction.

I had no intention of heading out that morning. It was bright and sunny, but my task list was at the forefront of my mind.

When I got the inner call to head to Signal Hill, little did I know I would get to witness the dramatic rolling in of a thick fog that would soon blanket downtown.

I may not ever find out the extent of the reason I was guided to go out that day, but my joy was good reason enough.

I was happy to embrace the mystery of why I was guided to walk into the fog.

2. Trust You Will Be Shown the Way, One Inspired Step at a Time

Instead of sticking to the popular routes, I felt moved to start off on the backside of the mountain along some tiny trails I’d never been on before.

At one point, I got a bit scared that the path alongside the edge of the cliffs may become dangerous. After all, no one else was around to see / hear me if I fell.

Fear started to take a hold of me, but I was able to discern that it wasn’t an intuitive warning. It was just my inner chicken.

So I comforted her by saying -“Let’s go see where it leads. If it gets too difficult, you can always turn back. OK? Deal!”

I kept going and eventually, I just stopped and got a clear “no further!”. So I turned around thinking I’d have to retrace my steps.  But just behind me going uphill was a steep but manageable trail I hadn’t seen seconds before.

With my walking stick, it was no problem.

Halfway up, I turned around to a spectacular view of the fog sweeping the Narrows beneath me. And soon after that, I joined up to the trail I was more familiar with, exclaiming a big “I did it! Yay!!!”

The trail wasn’t totally deserted, but the man standing on the boulder above made no sign of having heard me. lol

3. Intuition is an Invitation to Grow – Stretch those Comfort Zones

Having reached a beautiful vista from above the fog, I watched as two women were walking in my direction. One was a redhead with long curls.

“Oh how she would look great in my video looking out at the invisible ocean”. Newfoundland is very Irish and so redheads are quite common, especially in tourism videos.

I can be quite shy. But I remembered how happy I was that I’d finally found the guts to ask a woman in Dublin if I could photograph her plaid boots & red suitcase – one of my favourite photos from the trip. So once again, I found the courage to ask if she’d model for me.

It turns out she wasn’t from here but a visitor from Ontario. She was delighted by the ask and as you’ll see, did a fabulous job of slowly turning to the left looking at the fog. Yay!

Guidance is useless if you don’t act on it. I felt the urge to ask and I’m so glad I did.

4. You May Not Know Why, But Act on Inspiration

I had some lovely connections during my hike. For a while I walked alongside an Australian living in Toronto. Later, I chatted with a couple from Quebec, sharing tourist tips.

Who knows if something I said had a positive impact on the rest of their time here.

We don’t always have to know.

Sometimes we’re asked to be a messenger. Sometimes, we’re asked to open to receive messages.

I enjoyed approaching these encounters with curiosity and my usual enthusiasm about the beauty of this place.

If I can be a blessing in someone’s day, wonderful! I’ll always be grateful for the blessing that redhead was when she said “yes!”.

5. Love It Or Hate It – Your Choice

Some people had climbed or driven up Signal Hill hoping to get its famous view of the ocean.

It may have been sunny when they left downtown, but there was no water to be seen by the time I reached the top.

I found the fog absolutely stunning. And so did many others.

But I’m sure some were disappointed.

We always have a choice about how we react to circumstances.

Part of intuitive living is trusting that there’s a reason for everything. It’s a lot easier than believing everything is working against you.

6. Follow Your Bliss – Your Emotional Guidance System Speaks

I’d woken up that morning with the intention to catch up on my blog. I had the topic but not the usual spark to share. I knew that wasn’t serving you or me.

That’s when I felt myself called to Signal Hill.

And oh what bliss! From beginning to end (including my Ethiopian lunch), I was bursting with joy – even or especially when I felt the fear and did it anyway!

That joy is a sure sign that I was on track, even if my day wasn’t going according to plan.

A few more hours of video editing later, I had this beauty & blog to share with you.

Hope you enjoyed them both.

Jewels of Ireland Video – 2 weeks in 2 hours

As I told my Papa, “You don’t have to look at it all at once!”.

Yes, it’s 2 hours long. Feast your eyes on beauty, bite-sized, if that’s what serves you best or enjoy the whirlwind tour of Ireland in one sitting. Your choice!

Just remember to use the gear wheel at the bottom to watch it in HD instead of SD for better quality.

The Trip – Background

I was blessed to finally travel to Ireland in May of 2022 for a 2-week CIE International coach tour of Ireland (Republic of Ireland & Northern Ireland).

I say “finally” because I’d purchased this trip over 2.5 years ago and wasn’t able to get a refund when the pandemic hit.

Originally, this was going to be the touristy ending of a 2-month trip. The first 6 weeks would have been spent in 3 different spiritual retreat centres for a solo self-directed spiritual/artistic retreat experience.

If you recall, back in 2019, I’d created the painting “The Gateway” as the last piece in my Re-Connect to your True Self series.  I’d then received Guidance that there would be a need for isolation before the rebirthing of the world.

The mistake I made was to take this message personally. I’d thought it was a need for me to isolate to tune in and rebirth my world.

So I’d planned 1.5-months of isolation in an Irish Buddhist retreat Centre, a Catholic god-pod on monastery grounds and a hermitage in the Wicklow Mountains.

Months before my trip, the pandemic hit … plenty of isolation for all and yes, the beginning of a planetary re-birthing.

I’m not sure I would have booked an overseas trip this year had I been able to get a refund or received guidance to re-sell the tour.

Every time I checked in, however, it was “Go!”. So I did and no regrets.

I may return one day for the more introspective spiritual experience I’d envisaged, but am thoroughly grateful for this touristy break in my routine.

With 1 other Canadian and 22 Americans, I got to see & experience a great variety of natural & man-made sites – all of which you’ll see through my eyes in the video above.

I’d often wake up hours before breakfast to go walking or playing with my 2 iPhone cameras.

But after our long dinners together, I was always ready for bed.

Family Connections

It’s amazing how traveling further from my family (who all live in a different province than me – or different plane for my Maman) actually brought us closer during this trip.

Part of my attraction to Ireland was that some of my ancestors on the Hurley side come from there.

My Papa was never far from my thoughts during my trip as I learned more about the history and geography of this fatherland.

I connected with my brother and his wife, knowing they’d traveled there before me, actually finding the tiny “Hurley Bridge” where research had identified our bloodline’s last homestead before emigration.

Both my father & brother also came to mind at the Foynes aviation museum. They’re big into planes…

And my sister was with me as I visited & connected to her at each sacred site & healing well.

As for my beloved Maman, this trip had been paid for with some of the inheritance money I’d received from her estate. She was close in every moment of gratitude – and there were so many!

I may have been traveling solo, but I was never truly alone away from the tour group. Along with my Team of Divine Helpers, my family were sharing in the journey.

The Videography / Photography

Every day, I took hundreds, even thousands of videos and photos of the beauty I beheld.

To avoid overwhelm upon my return, I spent time editing and deleting files every evening before sleep.

My intention had been to stay off social media during my holiday.

But right before I left, Apple added a feature to its iMovie app on my iPhone 13 pro max. It’s called Magic Movie. It automatically curates a video using all the photos and videos you select, adding transitions and royalty-free music.

The amazing thing is that it takes about 2 minutes instead of the usual 2-5 hours it would have taken me to do it manually in iMovie.

So I took advantage of this new feature to create & post 32 mini-movies on Facebook during my trip.

Unfortunately, this new program had 1 major disadvantage. No matter the order in which you select the media, it starts with the newest first, ruining the chronological order of events.

This didn’t matter much for some, but did in others. I’d sometimes spend time making some manual fixes, but it was still a whole lot less time than the manual way.

It was a great exercise in letting go of perfection for the sake of sharing my experiences.

Another disadvantage is that Magic Movie sometimes cropped my photographs in a way I certainly wouldn’t have and didn’t give the option to request full frame. So I left some as is and deleted others.

The advantages of this speedy automation far outweighed the disadvantages. I only used the lengthy manual way for 3 of my mini-movies, I believe.

The day after I got back, as a way to review my trip, I spent 8 hours putting these 32 mini-movies together with scenes from the coach window & quick photo stops in between.

And that’s what I’m offering you now – a chance to experience 2 weeks around Ireland in 2 hours in this Jewels of Ireland video. Enjoy!

And if you want to spend more time contemplating the photography, feel free to visit my album on Flickr.

ArtsSmarts- Impressions of Newfoundland Expressions

A Success Story

Opening the door to the colourful world of both intuitive painting and Newfoundland expressions at Beachy Cove Elementary School was a blessing on so many levels.

Facilitating students’ messy fun for the first 2 community layers was just the beginning.

Witnessing their individualized creative expression of a Newfoundland saying on the 3rd layer was both heart-opening and mind-blowing!

This is truly a success story:

  • 535 happy children got to express their creativity in a culturally symbolic intuitive painting over 5.5-weeks.
  • This resulted in the creation of a gorgeously illustrated treasury of Newfoundland & Labrador sayings available to all.
  • After over a year of pandemic restrictions, parents were finally allowed back into the school to be involved with their children.
  • As the project artist, I grew both professionally and personally (more on that below).

As you’ll see in the video, so many were involved in making this a success story. Thank you to all!

ArtsSmarts 2021-Beachy Cove Elementary School

The Project History

Laun Shoemaker, a Grade 4 French Immersion teacher at Beachy Cove Elementary School, approached me a few years back with the idea of making an illustrated book of Newfoundland & Labrador sayings with the whole school.

I came up with an intuitive painting process that had classes participate as a group on 2 layers of a community background before cutting that up to work on individual pieces. This collaborative foundation ensured that the whole class contributed to the success of each student. The technique for the 3rd layer was adjusted for each grade level –  Kindergarten to Grade 4.

Although the Newfoundland & Labrador Arts Council granted us the maximum allowance for this ArtsSmarts project, the pandemic put it on hold.

In the Fall of 2021, Lisa Cobb, the school’s Reading Specialist and new ArtsSmarts project Liaison, stepped in as Laun was now on sabbatical.

She and Carolyn Lethbridge, the associate director, spent time with the children of the lower grades to introduce the concept of Newfoundland expressions and symbolic representation.

Parents & grandparents were also asked to help their children choose expressions.

By the time they came to my sessions, their focus was on translating their expressions symbolically & visually.

The PDF Book

Creating the artwork was just the first part of this ambitious project.

Lisa & Laun  (while still on sabbatical) worked tirelessly on scanning the artwork and designing the book before the children got to take their paintings home.

“Impressions of Expressions: An Illustrated Guide to Popular Newfoundland Sayings” is now available for download here (492 MB).

This PDF is now a free resource honouring the rich language of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. Copies will be sent to places like The Centre For Newfoundland Studies at MUN, ArtsNL, and the Minister of Education.

A printed hardcover copy is archived in the Beachy Cove Resource Centre.

Open House Video

During my first days of teaching, I learned the school usually has an ArtsSmarts Open House at the end of the project to share the work with parents.

This year, however, that wasn’t a possibility due to the pandemic safety guidelines.

Instead, I  decided to play with another of my passions: videography.

So while the school team worked on the book, I worked on the video above.

All children featured in this video were photographed with permission from their parents/guardians.

Times have changed… Part of modern teaching, it seems, is taking photos for Twitter to keep the parents up to date on what’s happening at school. That served us well!

I may have been surprised at first to discover I could photograph most of the children. Once I got started, though, you couldn’t stop me. Fun!

This Open House video turned out to be a silver lining to the pandemic. Now, this project can be shared with a much wider audience. Enjoy!

Stretching the Comfort Zones

This was a huge project born from an ambitious vision.

The further we got from the inspired grant proposal-writing phase, the more daunting it became for me.

Comfort zones are an interesting thing. They stretch, but they also shrink.

This ArtsSmarts project was definitely a stretch. After being a happy hermit at home or solo nature videographer for 2 years during the pandemic, my comfort zones around crowds had shrunk. A lot.

I knew better than to ignore a Spirit Call though. And this project was just that!

I may have lived on 3 continents and 5 provinces, but answering each Spirit Call was a stretch of my comfort zones.

When change comes from Guidance, however, it’s a whole lot easier to trust that the stretch is a good thing… for myself and / or the Greater Good.

I confess, the idea of teaching 535 kids intuitive painting for 5 weeks in a neighbouring town had become …. intimidating.

I’d been tempted to cancel the project a few times when it was postponed, and I was given the choice.

But my pendulum and this corner of my 2021 intuitive vision board  made it very clear that this project was meant to be… for the children and also for me!

So once again, I was asked by my Higher Self to feel the fear and do it anyway.

I even invested in my first car as the school was 30 minutes drive away, with no bus service. That in itself was a big stretch, and I’m not just talking financially. Not having a car had been part of my simple living choices. Now I was exploring freedom of a different kind.

Of course my organizational skills and background in both recreation and teaching helped.

Once the supplies were finally in hand, and I was given a classroom to set up (instead of the possible scenario of having to go from classroom to classroom due to pandemic guidelines) I breathed easier.

Still – what a stretch!

  • 24 classes (up to 27 students in a class) x 3 sessions each
  • switching back and forth between English & French
  • 24 large watercolour paper surfaces, 3 a day in 2 splash zones
  • over 400 painting tools divided in 3 kits for sanitization between groups
  • 14 colours of fluid & heavy body acrylic paints
  • 18 parent-volunteers, 26 teachers & interns, 2 teaching-learning assistants and student assistants
  • countless hours of shooting & editing B-roll, including constant weather-watching for drone opportunities outside of teaching hours. There aren’t a lot of windless sunny days in Portugal Cove St. Phillips!
  • and so much more

Elementary school teachers are definitely heroes! I got a taste of what it takes, but only for 5 weeks!

What a difference from my 25 years of teaching English as a Second Language to university adults! There’s no assigning group-work if you need to go to the washroom – lol!

After the first week, my body no longer felt like a stranger. Being on my feet all day instead of working at the computer or painting table was big change.

After the first two weeks, I only got to school before the custodian on days I thought I could shoot a good time lapse of the sunrise.

Thank goodness for the amazing support of the school staff and all the parent volunteers. I couldn’t have done it without them!

On days with no volunteers, it was non-stop.

On days with more than one volunteer, I could step back to shoot a few clips during the session to create this video. My tripod was part of the team.

I’ll admit, having both my teaching and photographer hats on at the same time was a juggle. My paint-covered phone cases are the proof!

5.5 weeks later, I could hardly believe how smoothly & quickly it all went.

With hundreds of people and moving pieces, it’s truly amazing how it all came together!

I was so thankful I hadn’t given in to the fear or overwhelm.

My best self soon felt right at home organizing & enthusiastically leading this program.

Mostly, I’m so grateful I stretched those comfort zones for the children!

Being part of a school community was a beautiful “from me to we” experience.

Who knows the extent of the gift this experience was for them. I trust, however, that it’s a gift that will keep on giving.

May this bit of truth-saying encourage you look at where fear is stopping you from trying something new – be it a project, workshop, hobby, trip or relationship.

Ask your Higher Self what’s in the Highest Good.

Spirit Calls, as I call them, are always an intuitive invitation to grow. Your ego may want to keep you small by promoting the status quo, but that’s no way to emerge more fully into your True Self.

I have no regrets whatsoever for saying “Yes!” again and again to this project.

I would have regretted backing out though…

Special Moments

Passing by a line-up of kids waiting to leave the library:

“That’s the lets-get-messy-lady!”

When asked what they’d learned in our 3 classes together:

“If I talk to myself like I talk to my best friend, good ideas come into my head on how to fix things.”

” There are no mistakes.”

“I can put love into my work”.

“If you mix all the warm and cool colours when they’re wet, it makes mud! Let them dry!”

“I love to flick paint!”

When a child ran up to me after the class and gave me a big hug, looked up at me and said:

You’re my mommy’s favourite artist.
